Description
Up for your consideration is a pair of vintage men's knit knee length underwear. They are fashioned from wool in a shade of light mocha brown with off white stripes. They feature long legs and a diamond shaped gusset at the crotch. Encased elastic waist. Label is in German and reads:"Dr Rall's Elfe Gr.46" on one side and " unterwasche FIG 46" on the other. ( underwasche translates to underwear in German) Though I believe these are technically considered underwear and have no lining, they could be worn as swim trunks if needed for a costume to replicate early 1900's/1910's men's swim fashion ( see last photo.) I tried to research the Dr Rall's brand and was not able to find anything. When researching the German name Rall , I found information on Gunther Rall who was a German pilot in WW2 and in 1943 he married a Viennese doctor named Hertha ( Schon) so I wonder if perhaps she ( Dr. Rall- assuming she took his last name) had clothing associated with her name? Just a hypothesis on my part- would love to hear from anyone that knows anything about the Dr Rall's label.
Measurements: Label listed as size 46- European sizing. I would estimate them to fit like a men's small/ medium in todays sizing.( depending on how tight you would like them) For reference, shown photographed on a male mannequin that has measurements of waist 30/ hips 37 and they fit with some room. They measure as follows:
Waist: 27" unstretched/ 48" fully stretched
Hips: 35" unstretched / 56" fully stretched
Waistband top to leg bottom: 22"
Leg opening: 15" around unstretched/ 23" around fully stretched
Condition: overall excellent vintage condition with the exception of darning repairs- see pics. They have been hand washed and air dried so they are clean and wearable.
